Dear Parents/Guardians of Eighth Grade Students,

We would like to welcome all Eighth grade students to their final year at Bancroft! This is going to be a very exciting year with many fun activities planned. We are hopeful that all students will be able to attend these events. There are certain district mandated requirements and school requirements that must be met in order for students to receive a middle school diploma and participate in eighth grade activities.

Our goal is to have all eighth grade students meet the requirements to culminate/graduate from Bancroft Middle School and receive a middle school diploma. However, if the following requirements are not met, the student will NOT be able to participate in the culmination/graduation ceremony and in addition, will NOT receive a diploma from Bancroft.

The culmination/graduation requirements are as follows:

  1. Students must earn a total of 50 credits in their 8th grade year. In order to earn 50 credits, students must pass ten of their twelve classes in the 2008-09 academic school year (there are six classes in each semester). Students cannot have more than two Fails on the Fall and Spring final report cards combined.

  2. Earn no more than two "U's" (unsatisfactory) in cooperation on the final spring report card.

  3. Earn no more than two "U's" in work habits on the final spring report card.*

  4. Clear all textbook and library fines for lost or damaged books.

Students and parents will be notified in writing at each ten-week grading period if a student is not meeting eligibility requirements for culmination. The final culmination list will be based on the Fall final report card as well as the Spring eighteen-week culmination checklist.
